I was apprehensive about enrolling on the Incubator; I certainly didn’t have a business idea to “incubate” and I felt totally devoid of any inspiration or ideas on how to change career direction or start up something new. Basically I was stuck in a rut. But what came out of the first session was that everyone in the group was, in their own way, slightly stuck on how to move forwards. And it was this common thread that drove us, a group of total strangers, to use our collective skills, enthusiasm, knowledge and imagination to help push each other along.

After a month of very constructive thinking, soul searching and downright hard work – gently pushed and coerced along by the ever-inspirational Amy – the results have been incredible. Businesses that were just vague ideas have been crystallized, life-changing decisions were made and everyone is moving forwards in their own way.

For myself, the Incubator has taught me some vital skills to apply, not only to any entrepreneurial venture, but also to daily life; it’s given me the confidence to approach a new idea with concise, small steps but at the same time not to be afraid to visualize something bigger in the future. I’m now out of that rut and excited and inspired again.

At the start of the incubator, I wasn’t sure what to expect, not even sure what I wanted to incubate. More than anything I wanted to feel inspired and motivated again. I needed a boost to help me on my way again. Not so confident, and probably a little cynical, I embarked on the first session where I met such a diverse range of women from all walks of life, and most importantly I realized that I was not alone. Listening to everyone’s individual stories was enlightening as it was clear that everyone was stuck in some way and looking for a way up. Getting to know each and every person in this incubator has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life.

I came out of the incubator with a spark and desire to succeed, and a considerably stronger and more positive attitude and outlook on life with the strong belief and self-confidence that “ I really can do this!”. Going through this very personal experience was absolutely what I needed at this point in my life and has helped me to understand my key priorities and goals in life (not what everyone thinks they should be!) and how to move forward and achieve them. Having newly arrived at Nairobi, the Business Incubator was one of the best things I could have done both personally and professionally. Under Amy’s supportive mentor-ship, I found the direction and confidence to start a WHOLE NEW career path, focusing on one of my passions and finally escaping the 8-6 corporate world that I was pretty keen to turn my back on!

I came into the Incubator without one single grande idea, but with just a simple desire for change. There was such an incredible spectrum of women from different professional backgrounds and with such a wide array of business ideas that it was inspiring.
